Services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and related conditions are primarily funded through Medicaid and Medicare. These services generally fall into three main categories: Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS), Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with I/DD (ICF/I/DDs), and traditional healthcare services (Medicare Part A & B, and Medicaid State Plans, including behavioral health and pharmacy benefits).
Coordination of care across these categories has historically been insufficient for individuals with I/DD. Nationally, about 72% of Medicaid beneficiaries are enrolled in managed care programs, with I/DD being a significant exception. Various factors contribute to this, resulting in individuals with I/DD often being left in an uncoordinated system that lacks clear accountability in managing and accessing necessary medical services.
Deon Health was founded out of a strong commitment to ensuring individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) receive the highest quality, most appropriate, and compassionate care. To achieve this, Deon Health collaborates closely with I/DD service providers, individuals with I/DD, and their families. By offering essential tools, resources, and scalability, Deon Health aims to improve care for those with I/DD through three key strategies:
1. Building a national network of I/DD service providers
2. Creating a Medicare care management program
3. Establishing a Medicaid managed care entity
Deon Health will partner with providers in local markets to develop the necessary infrastructure for Medicaid managed care, including encouraging local provider ownership.
